I want to love this, but...
There is a lot to love about this system. It looks like my first stereo, circa 1979. The wood is attractive and it's rock solid. The speakers sound really good in a bedroom (I'm sure even better after some burn-in). The layout of the remote is intuitive, and it works no matter which way you point it. Pairing Bluetooth is easy. And when you turn on the sleep timer, it automatically dims the display - how thoughtful is that? I could go on.
BUT the record player is too fast. It sounds distorted, "off," and I've verified this by simultaneously playing a song on it (yes, on the 33 1/3 rpm setting) and digitally on my phone: on a roughly 5 minute song, the record player will finish about 15-20 seconds faster. And there is no way to fine-tune the speed, according to TEAC's support people (who, to their credit, were nice).
Thanks to Amazon, my replacement unit arrived a few days later - and it has the exact same problem.
With this brand name, and at this...
Brand new, but is good so far.....
First, i just got it today. It was very easy to set up, and was very well packed. Everything I needed was in the box, and while the instructions didn't specifically describe the set up, it's still easy. The cd player was tested first and it seemed to work fine. The turntable also seems to work fine......but is 33 1/3 really 33 2/3? I listened to sides 1and 4 of Electric Ladyland, all of Surf's Up, and a cut of Wild Gift by X.......some seemed fast to me...... Was that the Guinness, or is the belt drive a bit too tight....? Or just my imagination? I will update after i listen to the cd versions. The speakers are ok; The Beach Boys sounded great, Jimi just fine, X ok. I've decided to buy some Pioneers as an upgrade. Overall, so far, I'm reasonably pleased......oh, I should say that I ditched vinyl years ago; this is really just to have something on which to play The Beatles vinyl mono in September. I think it'll be fine if it really is 33 1/3.
Next morning: i...
Looks good, sounds good
I have had this for about 3 weeks. It looks nice though it's bigger than I expected (I know, the dimensions are there in the ad). I'm no audiophile, but it sounds good to me, esp. vinyl records--hadn't listened to one for about 20 years!! I listen to classical music so haven't rattled the windows; volume 25/40 is plenty loud.
This unit does NOT record to CD.
Some functions such as balance, bass, treble can only be changed using the remote.
Both AM and FM external antennas are provided. The FM antenna is a thin wire about 4 ft long. I get good FM reception (even w/o the antenna) where I did not with a boom box. The FM antenna plug is not a standard coax cable connector, although it looks like it in the photo on the TEAC web site (I had thought to connect to TV antenna)
Finally, I did not buy from Amazon, I got it for less elsewhere. Edit 8/1/14: Amazon's price has now come down to about what I paid.
