Impressive Audio Interface
I purchased the Scarlett 6i6 because I was in need of an audio interface that allowed me to send a separate signal to other band members. This was perfect because it has two headphone outputs and each one can have it's own signal. Further more the extra outputs on the back allow for future expansion if needed later.
First off this isn't my first dance with Focusrite. I previously had a Scarlett 2i2. The 2i2 had great Mic Pre-Amps and a great build quality. While I did like the interface I traded it for the Propellerhead Balance Audio Interface. Balance was also a 2in/2out device but it allowed you to connect multiple devices at once and switch the inputs at the push of a button. Balance was an awesome interface but lacked in the multiple outputs. After much research I came across the Focusrite Scarlet 6i6 which according to the specs it would suite my needs.
Build Quality
The Scarlett 6i6 has great build quality as you would expect. It has a thick, rugged...
Great interface for desktop / iPad recording and offline monitoring
I own several audio interfaces, and this is probably the best I've bought in this price range. The most useful (and hardly advertised) feature is that it can operate in standalone and class compliant (CC) mode. There is no need to connect it to a computer, and it works natively with a iPad. I can carry it and use it on stage for monitoring, and turn it into a portable recording studio with a iPad. Do not neglect offline use when buying an interface, I've come to appreciate this feature after owning several devices which only work when connected to a computer and wished that Focusrite had released interfaces like these earlier.
The power adapter supports 110 - 240 V and the connectors can be swapped for different types of sockets.
For a really in-depth review (hardware / software / performance), refer to this review for Scarlett 18i6 (18i8 has 4 preamps, 2 headphone outs, standalone mode and better iPad compatiblity):...
Love my 18i20
I'll skip the generic praise and get to the essential pros and cons.
Pros:
A myriad of inputs and outputs
Two headphone outputs
Beautiful red paintjob
Heavy duty construction
Free mixing plugins
Standby mode allows throughput just by turning on
ADAT support
MIDI in/ MIDI out
The free MixControl software
Focusrite Preamps
Cons:
You must install MixControl to install appropriate drivers as there is no driver CD in the box. Small one time annoyance.
Gain has to be cranked sometime to get an appropriate level signal.
Phantom power can only be turned throughout inputs 1-4 and 5-8 at a time. No on an as needed. so if only input 3 needs phantom power you must push the phantom power 1-4 button engaging it for all 4 inputs. Don't worry as this will NOT damage or affect the other inputs using dynamic mics and will only hurt older ribbon mics...
