Sennheiser HD 598 Over-Ear Headphones

Having looked through the other reviews for these headphones, there seems to be a general lack of understanding with regards to what you're getting with Sennheiser's HD598.
1. Sound Isolation: These headphones are not at all designed to be sound isolating. They are completely open - any other sound in your listening environment will come in, and anyone else around you will be able to hear what you're listening to. That being said, they are not intended to be used on the city bus or subway, or in a library, or in your cubicle at work. These headphones are for listening to music and movies in the quiet seclusion of your home or studio. The openness is what gives these headphones the unmatched sound stage they have. No closed set can even come close, on any price range.
2. The 1/4" Plug: On the end of the HD598 comes a plug size that may not be familiar to many. This is not a set of headphones for your iPod or your laptop's headphone jack. Will it work with the...

If you're reading this review, it's probably because you've either stumbled upon the HD 598's while looking for headphones on Amazon, or you've been to head-fi.org which is a website where you can read all about the legacy of all different headphones wether each headphone has been criticized negatively, has awesome reviews or some, both. In the case of the 598, there has only been awesome reviews.
For those of you who have just stumbled upon this headphone, i will spare you the time it takes to read about headphones becuase you will get hooked. Simply put, these are AMAZING headphones. Let me first off say that what drew me into liking these headphones was their ability to sonically reproduce anything i threw at them accurately and without distortion. An Owner of the HD555, HD558 and HD598
In a hurry so I will try to be quick, but thorough. Forgive the lack of proper structure but I think you will find the review quite informative.
I think it would be quite helpful to do a comparison. In contrast to the 598s, the HD555 are quite affordable to most for a beg head fi headphone, and they do sound good. Also, yes the foam mod "works" when done on the 555 in that it opens up the headphones, bass is more prominent but still remain tight (this is a popular mod that is well known in the head-fi community).
The 558 mod (foam removal) will NOT make the 558 like the 598. It will make the bass somewhat heavier/looser (slightly overlapping the mids) which some may find as a negative.
The casings where the drivers sit are different and the drivers are tuned differently.
The sound on the 555 is laid back and the 555 is not as airy and open as the hd558 or the 598. The 558 is also laid back and darker than the 598s.

Sennheiser Momentum On Ear Headphone - Ivory
Great Balance of Performance and Style
Have had the Momentum over the ears in my possession for the past couple of days. They’re pretty pricey for an over the ear model and have some quirks from a performance standpoint, but I’m generally a fan of them. Those expecting an acoustically accurate “reference” sound quality won’t find that kind of presentation from these headphones, but that doesn’t appear to be the point of momentums. These are designed to be more of a casual headphone that provides a very nice balance of style and sound quality that, though a bit colored, is worthy of the sennheiser name.
In terms of sound quality, the momentum on ears have a relatively laid-back sound quality, with some emphasis on the lower frequencies (bass), and lower treble frequencies. Bass is plentiful with these headphones, perhaps a little overwhelming at times depending on the type of music you’re listening too, but relatively clean, tight, and controlled. This is in stark...
If Your Hat Size Is 7.5 or Up...
These headphones are quality in every sense of the word. They are aesthetically gorgeous and sonically some of the best headphones I've ever experienced. From the metal headband frame to the soft ear pads and the sleek brushed metal look of the headphone cups, these are arguably the coolest looking and the best sounding headphones you can buy. I have a large head and the headband was too small. After about an hour or two of listening, I was in pain from the tightness of the headband and the pressure of the ear cups. I thought having small ears would be to my advantage with a pair of on-ear headphones; I was partially right. They fit my ears perfectly - but the headband for these was a shade too small for the headphones to be comfortable for daily wear. Anyone who has a bigger than average size head, caveat emptor. For the price, I should be able to listen to these for more than a few hours without pain. Sadly, they didn't work out for me and I was very sad to return them...
Comfort, flexibility and of course amazing sound.
These are probably my favorite pair of portable headphones ever. I'll summarize first for people.

-doesn't hurt the crown of my head
-Metal is flexible which can reduce ear pressure if you so wish
-Ear cups breathe and are comfortable
-Hand stitched and amazing quality
-2 year warranty in US when all others only have 1 year.
-Removable and replaceable cables included

-Doesn't provide noise isolation

I first got these headphones as a gift. Let me say right off the bat that I would gladly pay full price for them. I'm not an audiophile and for the longest time I believed in the notion that I should never pay more than $50 for headphones. With this in mind I was very skeptical when first trying these out. "There won't be any difference in sound compared to my current headphones" I said. I assumed the price was all just aesthetics. I was pleasantly wrong.

Sennheiser CX 300 II Precision Enhanced Bass Earbuds (Black)

I will start with saying that I love headphone/earbuds, and I am on a life-long quest to find great sound. Actualy, sometimes I feel it is more like an addiction (like buying a new set of cans at 2:30 in the morning because I cant sleep). It is not realistic to say that these little buds are the Be all End all of pristine and perfect sound quality that people spend beacoup bucks trying to find. Not everyone is crazy like me and willing to spend $400-$800 on a set of buds or cans that will bring ever so slightly supperior sound quality. So unless you are me and have a need to stick anything that claims to be high quality in or on your ears, and you are just looking for a fantastic sound at an unbelieveable price - GET THESE!!! (But a strong word of caution - buy only from authorized retailers. I suggest chooseing ships and sold from Amazon as they are an authorized retailer and honor the 2 YEAR warranty!)

I just have to say this....
these were my first pair of higher quality headphones ever. I bought them about 4 years ago. I paid $50 for them. After hearing how awesome the sound was, I thought to myself "if these were only $50, I wonder how great the sound would be if I spent $150 or $300." And so I did....I bought the Sennheiser 595's (GREAT cans), I got the Monster Turbines, I got the Shur SLC2, I got the Sennheiser PX200's, and I got two other kinds of sennheiser earbuds which I ended up giving away to my girlfriend and brother. Don't get me wrong, all of these new headphones I experimented with were great. But I can honestly say that these are STILL my favorite all-around headphones. Matter of fact I am bumping some Radiohead in them right now. They are awesome for all kinds of music - incredibly balanced bass, superior sound quality, awesome noise reduction, everything you could possibly want. hip hop, classic rock, soul, jazz, blues, electronic are the styles of music I listen to most - great for...
Not Great for Running -- Perfect for Everything Else
The cliff's notes: I gave these 3 stars because they are very much all-or-nothing in my mind. What I mean is that they are great headphones (4-5 stars) unless you are using them to run (1 star). I use them for running -- making them useless -- but they'd be great for others. And now I will elaborate for those that care.
For runners -- terrible. As most active people know, we have a tendency to sweat. After 1/2-3/4 of a mile, the earbuds become wet (I assume) and sound deteriorates to a horrendous level. The audio level will go from crystal clear to crackly and broken in no time. Furthermore, the asymmetrical cord is a horrendous idea. It sounds great up until a point where you're running against even a slight headwind. This forces the cord to constantly blow over your shoulder, often ripping out your earbud. And while on the topic, the "tacky" rubber that the cord is made of tends to get wound up and twisted onto itself which can be downright infuriating at times...

Review
Fantastic little earphones you can't do without if hard of hearing
My mother's TV Ears brand TV listening system kept suffering from broken earphones. I got fed up repairing them, or purchasing replacement headphones when I knew they just would not last.
I ordered the Sennheiser Set 840. Its sound and construction quality just blow TV Ears out of the water! The reception is crystal clear, even when walking into other rooms.
With Sennheiser's long experience in selling high-end hi-fi headphones, I was justified paying the extra cost for the model 840. They are worth every penny.
Installation took less than two minutes. And, we like the 4 sound (treble) settings for extra clarity during voice or musical broadcasts. They are simply superb for TV musical programs.
First class equipment all round.

It has been two months since purchasing the Sennheisers for my hard-of-hearing mother. She raves to everyone how nice they sound and how much clearer her TV...
Great Audio, lousy headset/earphone design
I was turning the TV up so loud the dogs were leaving the room -- and yet I was still missing some dialogue. So I finally decided to bite the bullet, and after much research, picked this (expensive) set-up.
The pros:
- Crystal clear audio - I'd honestly forgotten what it's like not to strain to hear dialogue.
- Some ability to fine tune for best speech reception -- if I miss something now, it's because the TV show's audio engineering is bad or the actors are mumbling.
- There is absolutely no delay between the TV and the receiver, so no problem of lips and words being out of kilter.
- Easy volume adjustment (but no mute)
- Does not need to be direct line of sight or hold your head 'just so' for reception.
- Has an external mic component (in case you can't connect to the TV) that I imagine could be used just fine with radio or other non-TV sources.
The cons:
- Ergonomics are a big fail. Only an engineer would think hanging...

Granted, the Sennheiser TV Listening device is not cheap. Neither is an Acura, BMW or Mercedes. You won't get quality in a $19 listening device. The packaging of this unit is truly incredible. Even the little plastic bags are unique in opening each containing all the extra cords. The instructions come with a quick start card and a complete technical manual in several languages. The quick start card is terrific(who has time to read a 40+ page regular manual). Everything (and I mean everything) has been considered for hooking up the unit which depends upon the type of TV you have in your home. Several difference connection configurations are illustrated on the quick start card. They are easily understood especially since I know nothing about electronics. Each supplied power cord is labeled in addition to a pic and how it looks all right on the quick start card. Remember, there are two different model units when you place the initial order.
