It's all about the games!
I was trying to rack my brain on all the hate behind this console. But then I realized, taking out the Gamecube ports, online, and SD Card, really affect one game the most: Super Smash Brothers. If you are the type of casual gamer that just wants this console to get your fill of Mario, then this console is just fine. The console is not only a steal, especially with Mario Kart included, but many of the Wii hits are at great prices as well.
One thing I do like about this Wii is the top-loading disc drive rather the dependence on motors to insert and eject discs, which are bound to stop working. Open the lid, pop the disc in, shut the lid and you're good to go. Simple and fool-proof enough for kids.
I also liked that it came with the Wii Motion Plus Remote with rubber cover, nunchuck, and even AA batteries. So, Nintendo did give you everything to get you up and running right away.
Oh, just to confirm it does have built-in memory for game-saves. It...
THANK YOU Nintendo! Exactly what I needed!
Perfect for young kids who are just getting into gaming!
Let me start off by saying, if you are a hard-core gamer this console is obviously not for you, but this $99 package was exactly what I needed for a 6-year-old who is just getting into video games. I did not want to spend between $200-$500 for a top-of-line cutting edge console with all the bells and whistles for a 6-year-old who doesn't need those features and doesn't have a clue what 1080p means. By the time my 6-year-old does get into more advanced gaming and wants multi-player features and internet download capabilities, no-doubt there will be a new, fancier video game console than the Wii U or the XBOX One. He certainly doesn't need "backwards capability" since he's new to video games or wi-fi for Netflix and internet downloads.
I purchased my Wii Mini on December 13th from TRU for $99 including the Mario Kart. I was concerned about whether I would be able to hook this up to my Samsung LCD...
$100
It's a good product. It is a Wii, with no gamecube support and no online access. I would like to point out that it is currently being sold elsewhere for $100. Anyone charging more than that at the time of this review is trying to ripping you off.
