Super Smash Bros. - Nintendo Wii U

Game of my Life
My wife suggested I take the day off and have a "Smash Day" with the kids (we have 4) and, like any reasonable person, I did. This review is dedicated to her.

The Roster:
Most characters are unlocked right from the beginning, which is a relief when you have kids who want to play as X but don't want to wait. Overall, the roster is much better than Brawl, with fewer clones and some of my favorites from new Nintendo games, like Shulk, Lucina, Palutena, and Robin. Wii Fit Trainer and Villager are hilarious and awesome. There are so many characters, I played all day and only made it through roughly half of them.

The depth:
There is so much to do and unlock, it's enough to make a grown father with responsibilities cry.

Amiibos:
This feature is not for everyone, but if you're a life-long Nintendo fan or you have kids, they're fantastic. They're a little confusing and I had a hard time explaining the differences between Disney Infinity and...

Nintendo is the only company that can launch a finished game.
I was SO scared that after the string of third party games released DOA this year that for some reason Nintendo might fall down that same road with the online portion of smash. I regret even thinking that and forgetting that Nintendo doesn't rush games out like seemingly everyone else these days.

To start, I went right into online mode and started up a match. Not only was everything working properly on the first try, there was ZERO lag during the match. Next I tried a private game with a friend, again, no issues whatsoever. I couldn't be happier.

I can't talk about the single player stuff or unlocking all of the characters, it's too soon for that. But I CAN absolutely suggest anyone with a Wii U should buy this game. And if you don't have a Wii U, buy one just to play this game. If you were ever a fan of the Smash Bros. series, you will love this.

I guess Nintendo still has to give these third party dev's lessons on how to release a finished game and...

This game is the ultimate Smash Bros game ever made by Nintendo. If you have ever played any game on the series you would know that's a good thing. It has an 8-player mode (a first for a fighting game I think) that is just insane!!! The animation and detail of each of the characters are amazing. What's even more amazing is that it provides great visual appeal (textures, lighting, animation, design) all running in true 1080p @ 60 fps. A claim that not even the mighty PS4 can claim all the time but Nintendo' s magic somehow was able to squeeze out of it less powerful machine. What really makes Smash a gaming classic are not it's beautiful visuals but how fun it is to play on your own; especially with family and friends. That's probably the reason why it has a Metacritic average of 94/100; the highest rated new game for 2014 and probably a contender for game of the year!!!
